28th Is the New Data Day: India Fast-Tracks Industrial Production Insights

In a major push to improve the timeliness and quality of economic data, the Government of India has recently stated that the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) will now be published on the 28th day of each month. This reform, effected by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), is intended to correct the previous 42 days' delay to a more recent monthly frequency.

The IIP, which monitors the growth rates of mining, manufacturing, and electricity sectors, will now be released monthly on the 28th with the release of March 2025 data on April 28, 2025.

The decision is likely to offer policymakers, business, and investors more timely perspectives on industrial trends that will help inform faster and better-informed economic decisions.

This adjustment aligns with MoSPI’s broader efforts to modernize India’s statistical system, including the introduction of new bulletins and data releases for private sector investment and the labor market.

The advance release calendar for 2025-26 confirms this schedule, with the IIP set for release on the 28th of each month unless it falls on a holiday, in which case the data will be published on the previous working day.
