A New Wave of Naval Leaders: Indian Naval Academy’s Passing Out Parade Inspires the Nation

The Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala, Kerala, had a moving sight on May 31, 2025, when 186 cadets embarked on their 'Antim Pag'—the last step into commissioned service—on the grand occasion of the illustrious Passing Out Parade for the Spring Term. The ceremony, conducted under persistent rain showers, turned the parade ground into a strong metaphor of endurance and discipline, characteristics of naval tradition.

Ceremonial Grandeur

The parade started at 7:15 AM and was inspected by Vice Admiral V Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, and led by Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair, Commandant of INA.

Special guests were Dr. Jaitirth Joshi, Director General of BrahMos Aerospace, senior naval officials, proud families, and dignitaries who had all come to welcome the new officers.

The ceremony was streamed live across the world, with families and sea enthusiasts globally watching the cadets transform into officers.

Achievements and Awards

The graduates consisted of the 107 A, 108 INA Course, 38 and 39 Naval Orientation Courses (Extended), 40 NOC (Regular), and 41 NOC (Coast Guard) graduates.

Cadets from other countries including Bangladesh, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania highlighted India's focus on regional defense cooperation.

Top performers were awarded with medals and trophies, such as Nakul Saxena (President Gold Medal, 108 INA Course) and Rohit Pawar (Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal, 39th NOC Extended).

The Cheetah Squadron, under the leadership of Squadron Cadet Captain Lucky Yadav, received the Champion Squadron Banner.

Legacy and Significance

The parade was the pinnacle of intense training in academics, leadership, and physical stamina, readying cadets for naval service challenges.

The ceremony, amidst the picturesque Western Ghats, restated the INA's position as a pillar of naval leadership and global cooperation.

These officers, as they set sail on their careers in the Navy, take with them the aspirations of the nation and the legacy of the Indian Navy's timeless values.
