Afghanistan’s Trade with India Sees Significant Growth

Trade between Afghanistan and India is on the rise, with Afghanistan’s exports to India reaching approximately $650 million in the first ten months of 2024. Exports accounted for about $447 million, while imports totaled around $203 million. Key exports from Afghanistan include dried figs, asafoetida, saffron, raisins, green cumin, and almonds, while major imports from India consist of sugar and raw materials for industrial factories. In 2023-24, the top items India imported from Afghanistan were mainly agricultural produce, such as figs, asafoetida, raisins, apples, garlic, saffron, fennel seeds, almonds, apricots, onions, pomegranates, and walnuts. India’s exports to Afghanistan include medicines, vaccines, soybean meal, and garments. Despite these positive trends, the World Bank notes that Afghanistan’s economy remains fragile, with a growing trade deficit due to increased imports and reliance on essential goods.
