Aga Khan IV Laid to Rest in Egypt’s Historic Mausoleum

His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims, was laid to rest on February 9, 2025, in a private ceremony at the family mausoleum in Aswan, Egypt. The solemn event followed his passing on February 4 at age 88. Dignitaries, including Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, attended the burial, which adhered to Muslim traditions. The late Aga Khan’s casket was transported via a ceremonial Nile crossing to the mausoleum overlooking the river. His legacy as a spiritual leader and philanthropist continues through his son, now Aga Khan V.
