Air India Successfully Completes Retrofit Programme for 27 Legacy A320neo Aircraft Within One Year

Air India has achieved a major milestone by completing the retrofit programme for its entire fleet of 27 legacy Airbus A320neo aircraft within one year. This retrofit initiative, commenced in September 2024, was aimed at standardizing and upgrading the cabins to Air India’s new three-class configuration, aligning passenger comfort and operational efficiency across its narrowbody fleet.

Key Highlights:

The retrofit programme included installation of new seats, carpets, curtains, upholstery, and other cabin elements.

Air India deployed three maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Hosur, Nagpur, and Hyderabad to expedite the work.

The Metro MRO in Hyderabad achieved the fastest turnaround time, averaging under 20 days per aircraft.

The upgrades ensure all retrofitted A320neo aircraft feature the new Air India livery and standardized three-class layout.

These aircraft are now operational on key domestic and short-haul international routes, enhancing passenger comfort and service consistency.

The successful completion marks the culmination of phase one of Air India’s ongoing fleet modernization journey.

The airline is currently progressing with widebody retrofits of Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft, with completion targeted by 2027-2028.

This achievement underscores Air India’s commitment to delivering a world-class flying experience through continuous fleet modernization and operational excellence.
