Airbus Completes Spirit AeroSystems Deal, Strengthening Global Aerospace Operations

Airbus has finalized its long-awaited agreement to acquire select assets from Spirit AeroSystems, marking a significant milestone in the restructuring of the aerospace supply chain. The deal, completed as part of a broader transatlantic carve-up between Airbus and Boeing, is expected to enhance Airbus' manufacturing capabilities and streamline operations.  

Under the agreement, Airbus will take over Spirit AeroSystems' loss-making European operations, including key production facilities in Kinston, North Carolina, and Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Belfast plant is responsible for manufacturing carbon wings for the A220 aircraft, while the Kinston facility produces critical fuselage components for the A350.  

As part of the financial terms, Airbus will provide Spirit AeroSystems with non-interest-bearing credit lines worth 200 million dollars. Additionally, Spirit will compensate Airbus with a payment of 439 million dollars. The restructuring is expected to stabilize Spirit AeroSystems, which has faced financial challenges in recent years.  

Industry analysts view the deal as a strategic move for Airbus, allowing the company to secure critical production assets while ensuring supply chain continuity. Boeing, which had previously spun off Spirit AeroSystems, has also reacquired certain assets to support its aircraft production.
