ASCI Study Reveals Major Privacy Compliance Gap in Indian Websites

A groundbreaking study by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has exposed that a staggering 94% of India's leading websites fail to meet cookie consent banner requirements. Among the top 50 websites analyzed, which garnered 30 billion visits in December 2024, only 6% demonstrate proper compliance. This revelation comes at a crucial time as India prepares to enforce the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA), which imposes hefty penalties ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 250 crore for violations.
