Asian Currencies Bounce Back, But Rupee Remains in the Shadows

The Indian rupee is experiencing sustained depreciation, reaching a record low of 86.60 against the U.S. dollar. This decline persists despite a modest recovery in other Asian currencies and a pause in the dollar index's rally. Contributing factors include the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) limited intervention, rising crude oil prices, and foreign capital outflows. The rupee's demand has been further impacted by the dollar's strength ahead of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration, potential RBI rate cuts to stimulate sluggish growth, and increased currency volatility. Analysts anticipate that upcoming U.S. inflation data and the new administration's policies will significantly influence the rupee's trajectory.
