Banking on Intelligence: SBI’s AI Blueprint for a Smarter Bharat

The State Bank of India (SBI), recognized as the largest lender in the country, is taking a bold step in reshaping its role within India’s digital economy. With a strong focus on technology, SBI is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and big data to drive its vision forward. According to SBI’s Annual Report for FY2025, the bank has undergone a remarkable transformation, with over 98% of transactions now happening through digital channels, significantly cutting down on the need for traditional, branch-based services.

 

Central to this change is SBI’s flagship YONO platform, which has attracted more than 8.8 crore users and introduced 164 new features just in FY2025. YONO’s support for multiple languages and local dialects is making digital banking more accessible, especially in rural areas, ensuring that financial services reach those who need them most.

 

SBI is also harnessing generative AI, predictive analytics, and large language models to enhance key operations—from delivering hyper-personalized customer interactions to refining credit underwriting, risk management, and asset-liability management. Tools that provide real-time satisfaction feedback and AI-driven systems are continuously improving the customer experience.

 

The bank’s forward-thinking strategy includes forming partnerships with fintech companies and startups, which is driving innovation in areas like electric vehicle infrastructure and financing for renewable energy. On the inside, SBI is streamlining workflows through automation, boosting operational efficiency, and pioneering agentic AI for both employees and customer service. Chatbots and cloud-based solutions are simplifying complex inquiries and enhancing productivity.

 

With a balance sheet that surpasses ₹66 lakh crore and a net profit of ₹70,901 crore in FY2025, SBI’s approach to AI is more than just about technology; it’s about creating a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready financial ecosystem that aligns with India’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
