Bengaluru Auto Fares to Increase: ₹40 Minimum Fare Proposal in the Works

Fares for auto-rickshaws in Bengaluru are set to go up as driver associations have made a proposal for a new minimum fare of ₹40 for the first 2 km, compared with the present ₹30. The per-kilometer rate can go up from ₹15 to ₹20. The proposal is being considered by a committee headed by DCP (Traffic-East) Sahil Bagla and taking into account rising fuel prices and economic sustainability. While the majority of unions are in favor of the increase, others are against it, concerned about passenger alienation. The District Transport Authority will decide later this month. The previous fare revision was in November 2021. This possible increase comes after recent bus and metro fare hikes, possibly affecting commuters' transport expenses in the city.
