Bengaluru Metro Fares Skyrocket: Commuters Face 50% Hike

Bengaluru's Namma Metro passengers are in for a shock as fares surge by 50% starting February 9, 2025. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has implemented a new fare structure, raising the maximum fare from Rs 60 to Rs 90. The hike follows recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee, citing rising operational costs. To soften the blow, BMRCL introduces peak and off-peak hour tariffs, offering additional discounts for smart card users during non-peak hours and weekends. This significant increase comes on the heels of a recent 15% hike in government bus fares, potentially impacting daily commuters' budgets.
