Bengaluru Water Board Imposes Strict Restrictions to Combat Water Crisis

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has implemented severe restrictions on the use of drinking water for non-essential activities. Violators will face a fine of Rs 5,000 for the first offense and an additional Rs 500 per day for repeated offenses. The ban covers activities such as washing vehicles, gardening, construction, and operating fountains. This measure comes as Bengaluru faces a looming water crisis, with groundwater levels declining rapidly, especially in outer areas like Mahadevapura and Whitefield. The BWSSB urges residents to switch to Cauvery water connections and report misuse through their helpline at 1916.
