Bengaluru's Thirst: Why Rainwater Harvesting Alone Can't Solve the City's Water Woes

Bengaluru is hit with a serious water crisis as the groundwater levels keep dipping, and experts issue an "emergency" warning. Even as attempts such as BBMP's proposal to include rainwater harvesting on 85km of high-density corridors are made, the city's water issues go deeper. Hydrologists emphasize urgent action to avoid further drying out. The crisis is likely to peak in March and April when groundwater levels will dip by 5-25 meters in different areas of the city. Experts fault the government for not acting on long-pending suggestions, such as reviving lakes and adopting scientific water management techniques. The scenario highlights the need for long-term, holistic solutions beyond rainwater harvesting.
