Bessent's Crystal Ball: Treasury Secretary Foresees Trump-Xi Rendezvous

In a statement on the matter today, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is confident that at some point, President Donald Trump would discuss matters with Chinese President Xi Jinping. This announcement comes on the heels of escalating trade tensions between the nations, with recent tariff increases having already been handed down by the Trump administration. The words of Bessent offered some hope for diplomatic intervention, even as friction exists between the nations on the economic front. The Treasury Secretary's mark would seem to be mostly in tune with the administration's bold walk into the world of trade negotiations and at the same time gives signals of an intentional desire to go through speaking channels. Should the hopes of high-level talks indeed materialize, they could carry great weight in ongoing shifts in international economic relations, as the world markets reel from present-day trade disputes.
