Bihar Leads India With Five Originating Amrit Bharat Trains, Boosting Affordable Rail Connectivity

Bihar has emerged as the top beneficiary of the Amrit Bharat train initiative, with five non-AC high-tech trains now originating from the state—more than any other in India. The milestone follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inauguration of four new trains on July 19, aimed at enhancing long-distance travel for middle-class and economically weaker passengers.

Key Highlights From the Rollout

- The newly launched trains include:
  - Rajendra Nagar–New Delhi (₹560 fare, 17.5 hours, starts July 31)
  - Bapudham Motihari–Anand Vihar (₹555 fare, launch date pending)
  - Darbhanga–Gomti Nagar (₹415 fare, starts July 26)
  - Bhagalpur–Gomti Nagar via Malda Town (weekly from July 24, mostly traverses Bihar)
- These join two existing services: Darbhanga–Anand Vihar (2023) and Mumbai–Saharsa (April 2025)

Passenger Amenities and Safety Features

- Trains feature foldable snack tables, mobile holders, fast-charging ports, radium-lit flooring, and divyang-friendly toilets  
- Safety upgrades include crash tubes, EP-assisted brakes, sealed gangways, vacuum evacuation systems, and fire detection units  
- Designed for speeds up to 130 km/h, these trains offer a shock-free ride with air spring suspension  

Outlook

With plans to manufacture 100 more Amrit Bharat rakes, the initiative is set to redefine budget rail travel across India. Bihar’s prominence in the rollout reflects both strategic connectivity and political focus ahead of elections.
