Boost for Farmers & Economy: India Clears 1 Million Tons of Sugar for Export!

In a strategic move to manage surplus stocks and stabilize domestic prices, India has authorized the export of 1 million metric tons of sugar for the current season. This decision comes despite an anticipated production shortfall, marking the first time in eight years that output is expected to fall below consumption levels. Key sugar-producing states—Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh—have reported reduced cane yields due to adverse weather conditions and crop diseases. Consequently, the 2024-25 sugar production is projected to decline to approximately 27 million tons, down from 32 million tons last year, falling short of the annual domestic consumption of over 29 million tons. The Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association has welcomed the limited export allowance, viewing it as a supportive measure for local sugar mills facing low prices
