Bridging the Data Divide: AIG Chief's Urgent Call for Indian Healthcare AI

Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, chairman of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), highlighted a significant challenge in AI adoption for healthcare in India: the reliance on Western data. Speaking at BioAsia 2025, Dr. Reddy emphasized that this dependence often leads to biases and inaccuracies in AI applications. While AIG has successfully integrated AI in diagnostics and therapeutics, improving polyp detection and assisting in surgeries, the lack of India-specific data remains a hurdle. Dr. Reddy stressed the importance of educating healthcare professionals about AI's benefits and reassuring them that it will enhance, not replace, their capabilities.
