Celebrate National Bird Day: Embrace Avian Wonders and Conservation

National Bird Day, observed annually on January 5th, is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of birds and the challenges they face. Established in 2002 by the Avian Welfare Coalition, the day emphasizes the conservation of avian species affected by habitat destruction, climate change, and the illegal pet trade. Birds play a vital role in ecosystems, aiding in seed dispersal, pollination, and pest control. However, many species are threatened by habitat loss, pollution, and hunting. National Bird Day serves as a reminder of the need to protect these valuable creatures. 

In India, the day also honors the legacy of Dr. Salim Ali, a renowned ornithologist whose contributions significantly advanced bird conservation efforts. 

Activities on this day include birdwatching, educational programs, and supporting bird conservation initiatives, all aimed at ensuring the survival and well-being of bird populations worldwide.
