Chand Mera Dil Finds 22 Crore, Loses Momentum: Can Ananya–Lakshya Revive The Romance?

Chand Mera Dil has crossed the 22 crore net mark in India after nine days in theatres, while the Ananya Panday-Lakshya romantic drama is yet to get the weekend boost it needs at the box office. The film has seen a slight uptick on its second Saturday but the increase has been not enough to alter the film's overall trajectory in a congested Bollywood release calendar.

After a mixed first week, Chand Mera Dil (Lakshya Panday and Ananya Panday) was looking for better footfalls in their second weekend. The romantic drama, which was backed by Karan Johar and directed by Vivek Soni, has been the subject of speculation, but hasn't gotten the ticket sales that it's been hoping for.

By Day 9, Chand Mera Dil has grossed approximately Rs 26.6 crore in India and netted Rs 22.5 crore, while its worldwide gross is slightly over Rs 30 crore. The film opened at Rs 3 crore on Day 1 and reached a peak of Rs 4.25 crore on Sunday (Day 3), but the weekend drops immediately revealed that the film had a very small appeal beyond the core urban audience. On the second Saturday, the collections were around Rs 1.75 crore, which is approximately 34–35% higher than Day 8, but still not as good as a good word of mouth hit would be at this stage.

Trend Check: Weekend Bump That Wasn’t

The early trend was a familiar one: a solid but unremarkable start, a slightly improved weekend, and a downward trend during the weekdays when shows were running at low-to-moderate capacity. Despite the Eid boost, the film failed to gain momentum and the second weekend looks like a normal extension.

Audience And Performance Buzz

The reviews have been divided and the audience has been trolled with Lakshya's portrayal as the romantic lead getting fairly good reviews while Ananya Panday's acting and some of the music and dance arrangements have been criticized and trolled. The absence of any significant pre-release publicity has also meant that Chand Mera Dil is getting almost all the word of mouth which has so far been “decent but not must watch” for many cinemagoers.
