Karnataka Infrastructure Minister M B Patil announced that the selection of Bengaluru's second airport site will be based on merit, prioritizing connectivity, feasibility, and state interests. Two sites have been shortlisted: Kanakapura Road near Harohalli and Kunigal Road in Nelamangala. Kanakapura Road is near metro lines, NICE Road, and Mysuru Expressway, whereas Kunigal Road is about 38 km from the city center. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will make a consideration of the sites before the state government makes a final decision. As Kempegowda International Airport is set to reach its 100 million passenger capacity by 2030, the new airport is expected to cater to growing air traffic and boost regional growth.
