Crackdown on Fake News: 34 Social Media Accounts Face Action Over Mahakumbh Misinformation

Mahakumbh Nagar authorities booked 34 social accounts for a misleading video. The clip spreads the story that 300 deaths happened because of a train fire while on a train journey to Mahakumbh on February 14. Investigation revealed that the footage originated in a train accident in Bangladesh involving the Parbat Express in 2022. Since the commencement of the Mahakumbh Mela, the police have booked 12 cases against 171 social media accounts for spreading misinformation related to the event. Officials have also asked the general public to rely on official sources to get updates and not to share unverified content.
