Crafting Devotion: The Sculptor Behind Ayodhya’s Ram Idol Creates Stunning Ganesh for Ranbir-Alia’s Home

Bollywood's beloved couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are starting a new chapter in their lives filled with tradition and artistry. As they prepare to move into their stunning new Mumbai residence this Diwali, they have commissioned a unique Lord Ganesh idol sculpted by Arun Yogiraj, a revered Mysuru-based artist who crafted the iconic child avatar of Lord Ram for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

 

The Ganesh idol stands about four feet tall, carved from a single block of stone, showcasing a blend of Hoysala and Mysuru sculptural styles. Its pedestal, approximately two-and-a-half feet high, features intricate carvings of musicians, symbolizing divine celebration and exquisite craftsmanship. Arun Yogiraj revealed that the couple personally contacted him by phone to commission the idol, and he even visited their home construction site to understand the space where the idol would be installed, ensuring it would harmonize with the surroundings. The couple’s warmth and courtesy were evident as they invited him for lunch during his visit.

 

This exquisite idol is not just a decorative piece but holds personal and spiritual significance for the couple. Alia Bhatt is a devout follower of Lord Ganesh, making the idol an integral part of their new home’s spiritual foundation. The new six-storey bungalow in Mumbai’s Pali Hill, once owned by Ranbir’s grandparents and later his parents, is poised to embrace this fusion of heritage, devotion, and art.

 

Ranbir and Alia's exciting upcoming projects include the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film "Love & War" and Alia's entry into Aditya Chopra’s Spy Universe film titled "Alpha," setting the stage for an eventful year ahead as they balance their flourishing careers with meaningful personal milestones.
