Desi Beats in Buenos Aires—PM Modi Gets Rock Star Welcome in Argentina

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a thumping standing ovation and emotional welcome by the Indian diaspora in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on arrival for an historic two-day bilateral visit—the first of its kind by an Indian Prime Minister to the South American nation in 57 years. The reception, held at Alvear Palace Hotel, had classical dance performances of traditional Indian classical dances, "Modi-Modi," "Jai Hind," "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," and authentic interactions with members of society.

 

"Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Grateful for the warm welcome from the Indian community in Buenos Aires," wrote PM Modi on X.

 

The Prime Minister's visit is a component of a broader five-nation trip to enhance India's outreach to the Global South. His arrival at Ezeiza International Airport received a ceremonial welcome, with an energetic cultural festival by the Indian community later.

India and Argentina took their relationship to that of a Strategic Partnership in 2019, and 2024 was its 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. This visit can be expected to further enhance cooperation in all spheres and enhance people-to-people interactions.
