Driving Change: How EV Growth is Revolutionizing the Car Care Industry

India’s automotive sector is undergoing a transformative phase, fueled by the rapid adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and supportive government policies like the FAME II scheme. Vivek Mohan, Director of Vista AutoCare, highlights how this shift is reshaping the car care industry, creating new opportunities and challenges.  

The rise of EVs, expected to account for 30% of private automobiles and 80% of two- and three-wheelers by 2030, is altering maintenance needs. Unlike internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, EVs require less engine-related upkeep, reducing the demand for products like engine oil and fuel additives. However, there’s a growing focus on exterior and interior care, driving demand for surface cleaners, glass treatments, and protective coatings.  

Consumer preferences are also shifting, with EV owners increasingly opting for at-home car care solutions. This trend is boosting sales of DIY products like shampoos, foam solutions, and microfiber cloths. Additionally, advanced paint finishes and intricate electronic systems in EVs are making surface protection more critical than ever.  

The car care industry is adapting to these changes by innovating products that cater to the unique needs of EVs, ensuring sustainability and cost-effective maintenance for modern vehicle owners.
