Egypt Unveils Major Natural Gas Discovery in Western Desert’s Badr-15 Area

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources revealed on November 8, 2025, a promising natural gas discovery at the Badr-15 field in the Western Desert. The exploration well BED 15-31, operated by Badr El-Din Petroleum Company, has immediately been connected to the national production network.

Daily production from this discovery is estimated at 16 million cubic feet of natural gas and 750 barrels of condensate, contributing significantly to Egypt’s energy supply. The find is anticipated to boost Egypt’s gas reserves by roughly 15 billion cubic feet, sourced from the Lower Bahariya reservoir.

This discovery aligns with Egypt’s strategic goal to enhance domestic energy production, reduce dependency on imports, and strengthen energy security. The Ministry also highlighted ongoing exploratory activities, including drilling projects in the Mediterranean Sea aiming to add substantial reserves for future growth.

The Western Desert, once primarily an oil-producing region, has increasingly become vital for natural gas output, with technological advancements and renewed investments driving new breakthroughs.
