Eminent Hindi Writer Vinod Kumar Shukla Wins 59th Jnanpith Award

Renowned Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla has been selected for the prestigious 59th Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honor. The 88-year-old author, known for his distinctive writing style and emotional depth, becomes the first recipient from Chhattisgarh and the 12th Hindi writer to receive this accolade. Shukla's notable works include "Naukar Ki Kameez" and "Deewar Mein Ek Khirkee Rahati Thi," for which he won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999. The Jnanpith Award carries a cash prize of Rs 11 lakh, a bronze statue of Saraswati, and a citation. Upon receiving the news, Shukla expressed surprise and humility, stating he never expected to win such a significant award. The selection was made by a committee chaired by eminent writer Pratibha Ray. Shukla's recognition highlights his outstanding contribution to Hindi literature and his unique ability to capture the nuances of common life in simple language.
