Faster Tracks Ahead: 549 Trains Pick Up Speed In New Timetable

The Ministry of Railways has unveiled the 46th edition of its annual publication, *Trains at a Glance 2026*, which outlines sweeping changes to the national network. The highlight of this year’s timetable is the acceleration of 549 trains, aimed at reducing travel time and improving operational efficiency.  

The new timetable also includes the introduction of 122 new trains, extension of 86 services, and frequency increases across several routes. Select trains have been upgraded to Superfast status, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to modernizing services and meeting growing passenger demand. The changes span across zones, with Central Railway, East Coast Railway, East Central Railway, and Eastern Railway all recording significant expansions.  

Officials emphasized that the updated schedule not only improves travel speed but also enhances passenger amenities, reservation procedures, catering options, and tourism-related services.
