FPI (Foreign Portfolio Investors) Exodus from India: Why Foreign Investors Are Pulling Out

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) continue to exit the Indian equity market, driven by a combination of global and domestic factors. In 2025, FPIs have withdrawn over Rs 1.42 lakh crore, marking a significant outflow amid rising global trade tensions and a strengthening US dollar. The US Federal Reserve's decision to maintain high interest rates has made US assets more appealing, leading to capital outflows from emerging markets like India. Additionally, India's high market valuations compared to other emerging markets, such as China, have prompted FPIs to rebalance their portfolios. This sustained selling pressure has raised concerns about market stability and economic growth in India.
