From Ports to Progress: Sonowal Steers India's Maritime Ambitions in Singapore

Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, is taking part in the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) from March 24-28, 2025. The Minister joined international maritime leaders to exchange views on ways to advance a secure, sustainable and prosperous maritime future. Sonowal had meetings with Singapore's Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and other officials on enhancing bilateral relations. The Minister emphasized India’s commitment to enhance India's maritime capacity and connectivity; enhance supply chain resilience; and build a green maritime future. He reflected on India's vision to become a top-five shipbuilding country by 2047 and increase its share of the global cargo from 6% to 15%. Sonowal stressed the importance of digitalization as a key driver for India's maritime strategy while also embedding sustainability principles into its ethos.
