Bharat Biotech, India's leading vaccine maker, has planned ₹600 crore of investment in the establishment of a cutting-edge cell and gene therapy (CGT) facility at Hyderabad's Genome Valley. This 50,000 sq. ft. vertically integrated factory will be employed in the production of sophisticated therapies for cancer, genetic disorders, and orphan diseases and will strive to make the medicines affordable in India. The plant will manufacture major viral vectors like AAV and lentiviruses, which are essential for CGT adoption. Bharat Biotech is developing five therapies, including CAR-T cell therapy and off-the-shelf gene therapies, with product launches expected by 2028. The project aligns with the mission of democratizing access to advanced therapies that have been accessible only in developed nations.
