From Winter Woes to Summer Sorrows: Delhi's Perpetual Pollution Problem

Delhi has been facing the problem of air pollution not only during winter months but throughout the year, finds a recent analysis done by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). In the data from 2019 to 2024, air pollution was high from March to June, mainly contributed by dust and ozone. During summer months, the levels of PM10 and PM2.5 have continually exceeded that of national and WHO standards. Now, the city operates under GRAP Stage I with 'poor' air quality for four of the last seven days. Experts say pollution sources remain consistent, including transport, energy, industry, construction, and waste, throughout the year. There is an urgent need to undertake dust-suppressing technologies and emissions control to bring pollution levels down in the capital.
