Government to Convert Vodafone Idea's Rs 36,950 Crore Dues into Equity

The Indian government has decided to convert Vodafone Idea's outstanding spectrum dues worth Rs 36,950 crore into equity, increasing its stake in the company to approximately 48.99%. This move aligns with the September 2021 telecom reforms package and provides significant financial relief to the beleaguered telecom operator. Despite the increased stake, Vodafone Idea's promoters will retain operational control. The conversion will help stabilize the company's cash flow and facilitate further funding for its operations.
