Grade Expectations: Schools Step Up Mental Health Support For Students

With exam time around the corner, schools and colleges are increasingly focusing on maintaining students' mental welfare. This is a stressful time for students, who have to undergo high-stakes exams and ensure good performance. To address this, schools and colleges are introducing different measures to maintain students' well-being.

 

CBSE Initiatives in India

 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a whole-school psycho-social counseling program for students of Classes 10 and 12. The program, which started from February 1, 2025, has been initiated with the objective to reduce exam stress and offer crucial support during board examination time. The program incorporates a 24/7 Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) providing examination tips, how to manage time, and how to reduce stress. Moreover, a group of trained counselors offers tele-counseling services from Monday to Saturday.

Outside India, schools and colleges across the globe are embracing new ways to address students' mental well-being. For example, some schools include mindfulness meditation classes and stress management workshops in their curriculum. These interventions enable students to learn healthy coping mechanisms and become resilient.
