Two ships containing a total of 35,000 tonnes of Indian and Vietnamese rice arrived at the Chattogram Port in Bangladesh. The cargo is part of Bangladesh's stockpiling of rice and reinforcement of domestic prices that remain to soar high even as it carries out importation activities. The cargo contains 22,500 tonnes of Indian boiled rice and the rest from Vietnam, which it brought in using an open tender. Bangladesh also signed a government-to-government (G2G) agreement with Vietnam to import another 100,000 tonnes of rice. The action is strategic in scope to counteract food security problems and alleviate consumers from the cost burden of expensive local rice. Source: Dhaka Tribune, Daily Sun
