Green Blueprint for Sustainable Cities: CII-GBC Advocates 15-20% Green Space Allocation

The Confederation of Indian Industry's Green Business Centre (CII-GBC) has unveiled a transformative report recommending that all new residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects allocate 15-20% of their area to green spaces. Released at the South India Annual Convention 2025 by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the report titled Infra South: Crafting Liveable Environments in Indian Cities aims to address the mounting pressures of urbanization and climate change.
The report outlines a comprehensive strategy to enhance sustainability and livability in cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Salem. Key initiatives include city-wide plantation drives through public-private partnerships, smart energy solutions, and innovative water and waste management practices. It also emphasizes the importance of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and bicycle promotion to improve public health.
By harmonizing economic, environmental, and social dimensions, the report seeks to create greener and more resilient urban landscapes, setting a new standard for sustainable development in Tamil Nadu.
