Health Experts Alarmed as Fast Food Outlets Surge Across England

Health experts have expressed deep concern over the rising number of fast food outlets in England, with almost every local authority seeing growth or stagnation in recent years. The Office for Health Improvement & Disparities reports that fast food shops per 100,000 population increased from 98 in 2017 to 116 in 2024. Camden in north London now tops the list, replacing Bury. Obesity Health Alliance director Katharine Jenner calls the trend "infuriating," stating that fast food companies are "eroding healthy eating opportunities." The British Heart Foundation urges government action, highlighting the disproportionate impact on deprived areas already struggling with higher rates of heart and circulatory diseases.
