Healthcare Revolution: Govt's Bold Reforms Make Medical Care Affordable for All

In a groundbreaking move, the Government of India has introduced transformative healthcare reforms aimed at reducing out-of-pocket expenses for millions of citizens. These initiatives have led to a significant decline in Out-of-Pocket Expenditure (OOPE) as a percentage of Total Health Expenditure (THE), dropping from 62.6% in 2014-15 to 39.4% in 2021-22. The reforms include the operationalization of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, expansion of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, and enhanced budget allocations for healthcare infrastructure.

The Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) remains a cornerstone of these efforts, providing health coverage of ₹5 lakhs per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. With over 55 crore beneficiaries, the scheme has been expanded to include senior citizens aged 70 and above, ensuring broader access to quality medical care.
