Heating Up the Market: Coal India's Rs 10/Tonne Price Increase

Coal India has raised the price by Rs 10 per tonne for coking and non-coking coal from April 16. The action will help finance the Coal Mines Pension Scheme (CMPS)-1998. The country's largest producer with a share of more than 80% in domestic coal production, reported a FY25 output of 781.1 million tonnes, down from its 838 million tonnes target. Even as it fell short of its goal, Coal India registered a narrow 1% rise in output over the year before. But March production slipped 3.1% as subsidiary outputs dropped. The price increase is set to have a moderate effect on the sector with a 0.8-0.9% rise in non-coking coal and 0.5-0.6% for coking coal.
