High-Speed Innovation! India’s First Undersea Rail Tunnel to Cut Mumbai- Ahmedabad Travel Time

India is set to achieve a significant milestone with the construction of its first undersea rail tunnel, a pivotal component of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. This 7-kilometer tunnel, situated beneath Thane Creek, is part of a larger 21-kilometer underground section connecting Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Shilphata. Designed to accommodate bullet trains traveling at speeds up to 250 kilometers per hour, the tunnel will feature twin tracks within a single-tube structure. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the project's transformative potential, stating that it will significantly reduce travel time and drive urban development along the corridor.
