Over 17.3 lakh voters are set to cast their ballots in Himachal Pradesh’s second phase of Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections today, May 28, 2026. Polling will be held across 1,276 Panchayats, with Kangra district recording the highest electorate. Security and logistical arrangements have been finalised to ensure smooth voting.

The State Election Commission of Himachal Pradesh has confirmed that the second phase of PRI elections will take place on May 28, 2026. These grassroots-level polls are crucial for strengthening local governance and empowering rural communities through elected representatives.

Voter Participation

A total of 17,30,030 voters are eligible to cast their votes in this phase. This includes 8,74,416 male voters, 8,55,597 female voters, and 17 voters under the “other” category. Kangra district leads with 3,95,856 voters, followed by Mandi (2,72,181), Shimla (1,74,514), and Chamba (1,48,219). Lahaul-Spiti has the smallest electorate with 8,875 voters.

Polling Arrangements

Polling will be conducted in 1,276 Panchayats across the state. The Election Commission has deployed security forces to maintain law and order and has ensured accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Special Case In Chamba

Polling in Ward No. 2 of Gram Panchayat Samwal under Tissa block in Chamba district has been postponed. The Presiding Officer allowed voters to cast ballots with companions but failed to obtain mandatory declaration forms, violating election rules. Fresh polling will be held on May 30, with counting scheduled for May 31.

Importance Of PRI Elections

These elections will decide representatives for Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads, directly impacting local development projects, welfare schemes, and rural governance. The first phase of polling was conducted peacefully on May 26, 2026.
