Hindustan Copper's Historic Revival: Rakha Mine Set to Reopen After Two Decades

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) has awarded a Rs 2,700 crore contract to South West Mining Limited (SWML) for reopening and expanding the Rakha Copper Mine in Jharkhand. The mine, which was suspended in 2001 due to unviable operations, will be developed under a 20-year contract with SWML as the Mine Developer cum Operator. This strategic revival is part of HCL's broader expansion plan to increase its mining capacity to 12.2 million tonnes per annum. The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities and strengthen India's domestic copper production capabilities.
