Housing Revolution Accelerates: Centre Sanctions 1.41 Lakh More Homes Under PMAY-U 2.0

In a significant push towards affordable urban housing, the Centre has approved the construction of an additional 1,40,942 houses under the revamped Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The decision was made during the fifth meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) chaired by MoHUA Secretary Shri Srinivas Katikithala on October 15, 2025.

With this latest approval, PMAY-U 2.0 has now sanctioned more than 10 lakh dwelling units, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to ‘Housing for All.’ The 1.41 lakh new houses have been sanctioned in 14 states and union territories, including Assam, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Jammu & Kashmir, among others.

The scheme emphasizes inclusivity—76,976 houses have been sanctioned solely for women beneficiaries, including single, widowed, and separated women. Additionally, 13,509 houses are earmarked for senior citizens, while seven houses have been sanctioned for transgender individuals. Social categories have also been prioritized, with over 29,000 houses for Scheduled Castes, 6,500+ for Scheduled Tribes, and 74,000+ for Other Backward Classes.

PMAY-U 2.0 focuses on beneficiary-led construction, affordable rental housing, public-private partnerships, and interest subsidy schemes for eligible urban poor, economically weaker sections (EWS), low and middle-income groups (LIG, MIG). The scheme offers financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh for new homeowners.

Secretary Srinivas Katikithala stressed the importance of accessible and well-connected housing locations. States were urged to expedite project completions, organize loan fairs, and improve digital monitoring through geo-tagging, ensuring smooth implementation.

PMAY-U 2.0 adopts multiple delivery models including Beneficiary Led Construction, Affordable Housing in Partnership and Rental Housing.
