Lalit Khaitan, chairman of Radico Khaitan, has emerged as India’s newest billionaire at the age of 80, marking a remarkable journey in the liquor industry. His company, known for brands like 8PM whisky and Magic Moments vodka, has seen a surge in market value, propelling him into the elite business circle.  

Radico Khaitan, originally Rampur Distillery & Chemical Company Ltd., was acquired by Khaitan’s father in the 1970s. Over the years, Lalit Khaitan transformed the company into a leading liquor brand, competing against industry giants like Vijay Mallya’s United Spirits. His strategic approach focused on mass-market appeal while expanding into premium segments, ensuring Radico Khaitan’s steady growth.  

The company’s stock price has surged by over 50 percent in recent months, boosting its market capitalization to nearly Rs 33,000 crore. Khaitan owns 40 percent of the company, contributing to his estimated net worth of USD 1.1 billion. His success story is rooted in a deep understanding of consumer preferences, innovative branding, and expansion into international markets.  

Radico Khaitan’s portfolio includes popular brands such as Whytehall Honey Whisky, Contessa Rum, Old Admiral Brandy, and Jaisalmer Indian Craft Gin. The company continues to strengthen its presence in the global liquor market, exporting products to over 85 countries.
