India and Singapore Chart a Greener Course: Historic Pact for Digital and Sustainable Shipping

India and Singapore have entered a Letter of Intent (LoI) to jointly work on a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) during the current Singapore Maritime Week. Signed on March 25, 2025, the pact focuses on driving digitalization and decarbonization efforts in the shipping sector between the two countries. The two sides will cooperate to create zero or near-zero green house gas emissions technologies and take up digital means in the maritime industry. The two nations will collaborate in determining appropriate stakeholders and institutionalizing the alliance via a memorandum of understanding. This partnership is premised on the use of India's information technology prowess and green fuel production potential, coupled with Singapore's role as a strategic transshipment and bunkering point.
