India Considers Further C-295 Plane Purchase

India is negotiating the purchase of an additional 10 Airbus C-295 military transport planes on top of its original order for 56 aircraft. The Indian Air Force has taken delivery of six C-295 planes and the seventh one is due to arrive by the end of the year. The proposed new order would increase India's fleet of C-295s to 81, plus the already-approved 15 maritime patrol variants for the Navy and Coast Guard. This ramp-up is in line with India's drive to upgrade its defense capabilities and enhance local defense production. The Vadodara facility for the C-295 was opened in October 2024 and will build 40 of the initial 56 aircraft order, with the first locally built aircraft due in September 2026.
