India Grapples with Air Pollution Crisis: Six of World’s Ten Most Polluted Cities Located Here

A recent report by IQAir reveals that India is home to six of the world's ten most polluted cities. Byrnihat in Assam tops the global list, while Delhi remains the most polluted capital city worldwide. Other Indian cities on the list include Mullanpur, Faridabad, Loni, Gurugram, Ganganagar, Greater Noida, Bhiwadi, Muzaffarnagar, Hanumangarh, and Noida. Despite a 7% decrease in PM2.5 levels in 2024, India still faces significant health risks due to pollution, which is estimated to reduce life expectancy by 5.2 years. Major contributors to pollution include industrial emissions, construction dust, and agricultural waste burning. The report highlights the urgent need for effective measures to combat air pollution in India.
