India Inks ₹2,906 Crore Deal with BEL for Low-Level Transportable Radar

The Indian government signed a ₹2,906 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the purchase of Low-Level Transportable Radar (LLTR) systems. The deal will help improve the surveillance capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces, especially in detecting low-flying targets.

The LLTR system, probably derived from BEL's Ashwini radar technology, is intended to remove terrain-induced radar blind spots. It can pick up targets traveling at speeds of up to 1 km/s at 15 km altitudes with fantastic detection ranges of 200 km for big targets and 50 km for small targets. The system can track 200 targets at the same time.

This agreement comes after BEL's recent string of success in bagging large defense orders such as Ashwini Low Level Tracking Radar and Atulya Forward Area Air Defence system. This deal solidifies India's resolve to enhancing its indigenous defense production capabilities and boosting the technological superiority of its armed forces.
