India Reports 11 Outbreaks Of H5N1 Bird Flu In Southern Farms

The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) confirmed that India has recorded 11 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in poultry farms located in the southern part of the country. The virus, known for its rapid spread among birds, poses risks to both the poultry industry and public health due to its zoonotic potential.  

Authorities have stepped up containment measures, including culling of affected flocks, disinfection of farms, and restrictions on poultry movement. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying has also reinforced biosecurity protocols and surveillance to prevent further spread. Experts warn that while human transmission remains rare, close contact with infected birds can pose health risks.
