Wing Commander Akshay Saxena has been awarded the prestigious Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry) for his exceptional courage in executing a critical airdrop operation that led to the capture of 35 Somali pirates. The decorated pilot navigated a C-17 transport aircraft undetected for four hours through foreign airspace, successfully deploying marine commandos into the Arabian Sea. This precision operation resulted in the rescue of 17 crew members aboard the bulk carrier Ruen and demonstrated India's commitment to maritime security in international waters.
