Indian E-Passport Rollout in UAE: Enhanced Security, No Extra Fees, Seamless Travel

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai have launched the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP 2.0), introducing chip-enabled e-passports for Indian nationals residing in the UAE. These passports embed a secure electronic chip holding digitized personal and biometric data, aligning with international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

The chip technology enhances passport security by ensuring the data on the chip matches the information on the physical passport, reducing the risk of forgery and speeding up immigration clearance worldwide. Applicants can now use the exclusive online portal (mportal.passportindia.gov.in/gpsp) to upload ICAO-compliant photos, signatures, and required documents before visiting BLS International Centres, significantly reducing wait times.

Importantly, there are no changes in fees or biometric data collection for applications in the UAE. Biometric data previously collected remains valid, ensuring a seamless transition for applicants. Minor corrections to applications can also be made at service centres without additional charges.

This initiative reflects India’s commitment to technological upgrades in consular services while supporting the UAE’s sizable Indian expatriate community with secure, efficient, and user-friendly passport services.
